How do I determine the engine?

Greetings all. Please bear with me - new to the mechanical side of things, and still getting my feet wet.
I inherited an 89 F150 XLT Lariat from my grandfather - in very good shape physically, but needs some engine work. I've gathered info on it, and have viewed another thread in this forum re: using the VIN to determine the engine type. I THINK it;s a 4.9L V6, but how do I determine that for sure (inline vs staright 6??). I saw the thread in this forum re: using the VIN to make this determination, but the link on decoding doesn't contain all the numbers/letters that I have in my VIN. Can anyone help me determine jsut what exactly I have?
Start of the VIN is 1FTDF15Y5KLAxxxxx. its the "Y" thats throwing me off using the decoder at the link above.....

Many many thanks, and please bear with my upcoming numerous questions....

Greg

Did I just answer my own question by stating that it's a 4.9L? Does that mean it's an inline 6? I think I did.... :-)

There's no such thing as a 4.9 V6. The Y code in the VIN means it's a 4.9 inline 6, also called a straight 6.
