Lookin for some advice, Ive got a 360 basically stock its backfiring when driving down highway around 60 62 mph. It doesnt always do it seems it does it when first start truck in morning or if you let truck get cold. Ive checked the choke it seems to be working correctly it starts and runs fine other wise. Has stock carb, intake newer plugs, plug wires and wires are in correct order. Thanks for any help or advice.
A few things you might check are the timing, for a lean condition and or an exhaust leak. If your accelerating and at 60 62 mph and it starts backfiring the timing could be off. If at that speed and it starts backfing when you left off the gas then the other two might be the culprit. You might have bigger issues but I's start there first. Good luck.
it backfires at a steady speed (60 62 mph), doesnt backfire under acceleration or when letting of throttle. I have put a little bigger air filter, headers and straight up timing chain on it. I checked the headers bolts they were tight, wonder if gaskets leaking? Whats best way to tell for a exhaust leak?
it just started doing this, the timing chain has been on for a few months now. Would think if it was timing it would have started as soon has I replaced timing chain? But I will check timing to make sure.
