Your heater core is plugged if the one hose gets good and hot after a while while the other remains stone cold or barely warm. If both hoses are cold you have a bad water pump, but motor would probably be pucking out coolant some also unless pump just barely circulates water in which case go back to plan 1 and replace the pump.

neither of the heater hoses get hot just luke warm. I am gonna change the pump this friday and see if that helps.

Truck has 190k on it so it probably needs one anyway.

Hello truck 55. for what it is worth there is a mention in the Haynes repair manual ... " or the heater control valve is shut." unfortunately that is the only mention of the valve...why? sorry i am just throwing things out there to be considered. i know a ford mechanic he does the bigger work for me, i will call and pick his brain again, i think maybe he has not come across this most annoying problem. mike m.

replaced water pump and still no heat. I am getting a better flow to the heater hose on the crossover pipe. it gets hot for about an inch or so.

so i guess the next thing will be replace the hoses as they do feel squishy.

will report back if that helps or not.

With the Thermostat and Water pump you should start to get coolant circulation if the radiator is ok. Jack it up a little in front to help perk out the air. Reverse flush that Heater core. It is probably your problem. With all the tech nowdays you would think someone would put/offer a flow gauge on it to tell. Gettingit good and hot will help with moving the fluid once it is clean/clear of the obstruction. Heater Core is mostly an all day job, and the hose connections can be a real PITA. Do you have the tool to loosen them at the release? Carefully using compressed air and water maydislodge the crud backwards to the normal flow. The crud is mostly on the inlet side of the core possibly/surely. It seldom totally cloggs the complete core.

changed my heater hoses. what a PITA. whoever disigned the outlet hose connection at the intake should have to change it a few times.

blew the core out the outlet tube and now I have heat again.

thanks for all the help on here

A core of mine was clogged with a gell like material. It took some steam like heat to melt the stuff out, maybe a cup full all told.

Flused and changed fluids. Back flushed and used compressed air and got good flow through the heater core. Now get heat but fades on idle when fan is in full speed. with fan on low it comes back or if I race engine it warms up. All most seems that the flow is weak. Pump fins loose or broken ? I am not getting any pressure in the fill tank nor does the water in the tank seem to get hot. I replaced the cap to see if it was bad. Really thinking it is the pump but would think the truck would over heat but it does not and seems to run a normal tempature.

I would suspect your water pump is going bad. it is easy to pull off and check to see if fins are broken or anything.

heater core flush

hey everyone. a snowy day here in central Alberta Canada...25 cm nearly a foot of snow and colder temps to follow in the next day or so....so i put the expedition into the shop at work...so i flushed the heater core(s). all in all not a bad procedure...i cut the supply and return hoses to the rear heater core after clamping the supply & return line from the engine block closed with vise grips. 2 couplings and 2 4 foot hoses, a worm gear clamp or 2. started back flushing the front core via the outlet/return hose with garden hose at city pressure...empty the line into a five gallon pail to see what goodies were lurking in the heater core...wow... lots of grit both large and small...did that for several minutes before jumping to the pressure washer...flushed back and forth for 8 to 10 minutes until the water ran clear...decided that while i have the hoses open why not flush the rear core ....same procedure...not nearly the same amount of junk came out but some none the less. to button things back up; placed a hose coupling between each hose...worm gear clamps started the truck to check for leaks...none witnessed..let the engine come up to temp added a small a mount of coolant. left the shop an hour ago the ride home was awesome....what's that...heat you say...yes heat i say. feels good but will monitor and wait for the minus 20 degree celsius temps. mike m. :-p.s. my mechanic is to get back to me tomorrow concerning no heat.
