I'm planning on doing a coolant flush and refill today. Do I have to vacuum fill the system or can I just refill through the bottle like I've done forever with gassers?
You can refill through the bottle of needed but you will need to watch that bottle and add. I would fill the bottle to the cap and see if it will drain down and add as much as possible before starting.
then run it a bit and add more. I would leave the cap off so you can add as the motor is running.
The airlift tool is the way to go if you have it. Even then you will have to add some after a cold soak.
You need to use the fold gold coolant or the napa brand that has ford specs on it.
No one has really switched that I know of for this motor. To do so you would have to go through a cleaning process of distilled water rinse and cleaner...then more distilled water.
Then coolant. You would need to run the motor to circulate and flush.
In the end the concern is the chemical reactions that ELC would have vs the ford coolant. That would be my major concern.
ok dumb question but how do you flush with distilled water? ok after looking more i see most flush with a garden hose a few times then flush at least once with store bought gallon jugs of distilled water, makes sense. is there any additives needed to be added other than the ford coolant? anything for cavitation?
ok dumb question but how do you flush with distilled water?
Not quite clear .......but you can drain your system and fill with tap water..run your motor for 10-15min...drain system..Then add distilled water run motor again...and flush
add new coolant with equal 50/50 of specified coolant and distilled water
The ford gold doesnt have a good rep. The elc ec-1 rated stuff doesnt require adding nitrates, has a longer life and apparently silica free unlike the ford gold, which can lead to gunking up/clogging etc.
Less maintenance and less worrisome!
