Howdy All! my buddy has a 97 Ranger 4X4 Automatic. The gear selector has become out of adjustment. To get the truck started you have to pull up on it (the gear selector) and it is getting worse by the drive. I think it is going to leave him stranded in the near future if it is not bought back in to adjustment.
Will/can some one help point us in the right direction/location to adjust this, please?
Thanks!
Just want to bump it back up. It doesn't look like there is an adjustment at the trans. perhaps there is an adjustment in the column? Anyone know? Anyone care (LOL)? Thanks in advanced for the help!
Cope, On the drivers side of the tranny, Where the cable pops onto the shift linkage there should be Clip that you can loosen to agjust the position on the gear selector. It should be a black round piece close to where the bracket is bolted to the tranny. The cable will slide inside of the black piece to adjust the position. Good luck brother.

Thanks for the reply and the direction. I tried adjusting both ways and it didn't really help to much. I think the cable is stretched. We have put this project on hold until after the storm for now. I will get back to it in a few days (or so). Thanks for the reply and be safe the next few days!
Thanks again!
Cope, One other thing does the shifter itself feel sloppy? If so there are the torx screws under the steering colum that have been known to work loose. Look under the colum with a good flashlight and look up past the big U shaped bracket that holds the colum. Above that you can see the where the shifting mechanism is attached to the cable. Those screws sometime work loose and will also cause the same problem. Wiggle the shifter while looking and you can see it easier. Good luck brother.
THAT! my Friend, may very well be the problem! This is a wealth of information! That will be our next step. I'll let you know!
Thanks a million!
BINGO!!! That was it! It is 1(each) T25 (torx). We tightened it and then zeroed in the "PNDR" needle and it is back to narmal (what normal is). I hope I can pass this on to some one else who needs it! This is the BEST forum on Al's internet!
Thanks a bunch!
