Has anyone had a back up camera installed? Where exactly is the camera installed on an after market camera. I thought when I ordered the F350 that a camera was coming too. But, it wasn't. What brand of camera and where is a good place to have one installed. I talked to Ziebart today, they said they do install them but, I didn't get a good answer what kind they use. They said they could get any kind I want. I just don't know what kind is a good one.
I installed a license plate mounted one on my Ex, going to an aftermarket stereo and nav unit. Not sure how others feel about this but IMO I can't stand having backup cameras wired to the reverse lights. I don't need the camera every time I'm in reverse and I need it sometimes when I am not in reverse. If you fall in that category make sure you have them wire it so you can control when it's on.
On my F150 I removed the cylinder lock on the tailgate and drilled the hole a little bigger and put the camera there. I got a $50 camera from Fry's electronics, I believe the maker was Diesel (off brand). Easy install. Any cheaper camera is going to have moister issues. If you want to make sure you have no issues I suggest one of the fully sealed Pioneer models or the like for over $150.
Check out the edge insight cts mo itor with camera option
The Edge CTS will accept camera imput and display it, Saving you from having one more display in the cab. But like the Ford Navigation, It only works when you are in reverse.
