Question Auto to manual conversion

Hello everybody

I have a '77 F250 4WD XLT Ranger lowboy that I will be
doing the following things to:

Total rebody with a '79 cab/front cap/bed, 3"body lift kit
Swap 460 in place of dead 400M
Sway bars, poly bushings and add-a-leaf kits
front and rear.

The donor truck was automatic, mine is currently:

400M engine, C6(?) or C4 (pan looks like C4) and
married (lowboy) NP 205 transfer case.

How hard would it be to convert it to this?

'75 460 engine/NP 435 4sp/w granny gear to my NP 205?
Does a truck with auto trans still have the underdash
brackets for a clutch pedal?

Any advice or information on this is greatly welcomed
and appreciated.

Personally, I can't help you. You can check Advance Adapters for bell housing, tranny/t-case mounts.

I doubt that an automatic has the clutch brackets that you need. You'll also have to cut a hole in the floor, as I am sure you know.

Just be patient, someone will be along soon to answer your questions. I have seen the other posts, but I don't have an answer that is correct becuase I don't know.

Someone will be along that does. Sometimes it takes awhile (day or two) to get a response. Heck, alot of people are still working and haven't made it home yet.

Does your trany have a long output shaft used with a married transfer case or short used on divorced cases?

My 78 150 auto didn't have the under dash bracket for the clutch assembly. I had to pick one up used.

sound like you have a fun project in store!

While I can't help you, I have to laugh because I am looking to go the other way - replace the 4 speed manual with granny 1st gear in my 73 F100 to an automatic. Don't know how to do it either - too bad we don't live on the same side of the country - we could have swapped parts!

Well, e065206

I'm in NE Oklahoma near Tulsa. And if yours has
a NP435 mated to the NP205 I'll happily swap.
Heck, I might figure something out if you're really
interested.

Let's put our heads together on this one. Email me.

NP 435 is a big peice of iron. Itll have 4 gears, with reverse to the right of 3rd gear. The np 205 xcase is a iron gearbox, part time 4wd. Its easy to tell, itll be big, iron, not alloy, and have a cover that bolts on it, not a split housing like the weak ones. usually found on 3/4ton and heavier. Ill try and get pics

So the first one is my tranny and the second is a transfer case - I only have a 2wd so I don't have a transfer case (right)? That's a 4wd part.

White_knight - still interested even though I don't have a 4x4?

Ok call me an idiot for not looking to verify what I have. I lifted my truck donor tonite and knocked off 29 years of oil and muck. Found the casting marks standing out on the drivers side, drum roll please....T18 E1. Hoped for a 435, but ok, should be just fine right? My shifter even has the funky bends like in the pic at the website steve so kindly showed us. Thnx thats good site. I need a bellhousing to go from a T18 to a 460 now. I got a bellhousing, and a 360 FE in need of help and a pair of C6's. Anyone got any leads?

Thumbs up Auto to manual conversion

I wouldn’t beat yourself up to bad. I would prefer the T18 over the 435 anyway. When I was going to replace my C6 with a 4 speed, a buddy of mine hear in Spokane who owns a gear shop (Final Drive Repair), told me to look for a T18 or better yet T19 (synchronized in first), he said they were stronger. At the present time I have a listing in “FTE classifieds” selling my 400/C6/205. I am planning on running an add on my NP435 same as T18 bellhousning, that I was going to use before I decided to put a 6speed behind the “Cummins” (my latest implant) going in to my pickup. Those bellhousings are getting a little hard to come by, so greed is starting to set in. I am torn between a good deal to FTE Patrons or the excitement of Ebay bidders. Keep in mind I live over in the east side of Wa.

I was under the impression the 435 was stronger, and with the lower granny, a better deal. Didnt know the T18 was stronger, though I heard it shifted smoother. Wouldnt use granny enough to want the synchronizer like on the T19. I need a bellhousing to adapt this T18 to my 460. You said you got one? Email me at greg1974@***.net, if so. thnx
