Ya'll forgot one big item!!! You gotta jack it up (don't forget to use a jack stand for safety), pull the front tire, take the fender well loose (enough to pull it down so you can get your hands in to put the 10mm socket on the PCM connector. Some have said you can do it without undoing the fenderwell, I COULD NOT. (however, I am chubby and older, chuckle chuckle.)
Haha, my 2003 didn't have much room for the socket (but I couldn't find my short, had to use a deep well). Don't know that all that trouble crossed my mind, but it was a pain, and only one hand could fit at a time, which makes ratcheting difficult.
The PCM code is on a sticker where the connector is (under the hood). Using a mirror and flashlight, or as others have said, a phone/camera to take a picture (flash helps a lot). It will be 3 letters and a number (like VDH5, is in my 2003). There is no need to remove it prior to installation unless you want to prep the black plastic case.
On that note, many guys have done many things with re mounting the PCM. There are probably a few threads on it somewhere, but it won't just go back in as it came out. Its hard to explain without a picture, but you'll understand when you get to that point. The switch cable and edge of the chip keep the pcm from going the last 1/4 inch into the plastic case, so the mounting holes dont line up. Right now, I've got zip ties holding mine, but I'm planning on taking the plastic case and cutting out a slot so that it fits better and mounts like original intent. It will also enable chip removal for re burning without having to fight that connector again. The other thing I don't like is the ground tab isn't on the PCM anymore. It's supposedly not needed, but it bothers me not being there. I like grounds.
i found some videos on youtube that show the steps. there is one guy on there i guess he has a website powerstrokehelp.com. im sure alot of you guys have seen his stuff. it seems like good info and the guy seems to know alot

450, I think it's more referring to you posting a link to an outside source that isn't a sponsor...
I think
No, it's that Mr Bill's video, while decent quality and allow for visuals on some systems, to those that know the systems wonder how much he actually knows about how a compression ignition, heui, injected engine works.
BTW no need to change the hpop oil, if that was going to be your next question.

From one Grandpa to another I think you are talking about the IDM.

But it is a good idea to change the air in your tires every year to keep them from dry rotting from the inside out. And the headlight fluid every 25k. That's a must...
