Hope someone can answer my question. Drive an F350 Super Duty 2012 and occaisonally need to run at night(private property) with ability to cut off all interior, backup and exterior lights. Anyone able to tell me the best way to go about this?
Rather than rewire the truck, add set of lights on a toggle switch. That way you can only turn them on, and not worry about the rest of the truck lights.
Reach under the dash and unplug the break switch. Then just don't turn on ur lights. And like redford said, pull the fuse for reverse lights and interior/high mount bed light. Or, u could just pop out the bulbs for the bed light and dome light.
I need to be able to kill all lights and be able to turn them back(may have to move several miles) on without a lot of time being spent doing it. Need to be able to move around property without being lit up every time I have to stop or get out of the truck. Beerstalker is partially right, Work in conjunction with wardens on poachers, equipment theft and meth labs. New wiring on trucks is too intertwined to put in toggle switches for all the lights on the truck. Was easy on a 2006 model just 2 switches and fuse bypass but not so easy on this new rig.

Okay, headlights and running lights are no problem. Just turn the headlight switch OFF. I believe that will turn off all the dash lights too, except for the LCD cluster. Maybe turn the brightness dial all the way down too. That leaves the dome light, cargo light, and backup lights. It should be easy to interupt the wiring to the dome and cargo lights and put those on a separate switch. Together or separate as you prefer. For backup lights, how much do you need them? You could pull the bulbs or fuse, but you could also interupt them with a switch. That's only a couple of switches, and with relays you could tie them to a single upfitter. So what lights am I missing? Brake lights!
Brake lights might be the biggest challenge, because the circuit is checked by the PCM. You would need to experiment with relays in the brake light wiring. Point is, you can turn on as many relays as you need with just one upfitter, and interupt whatever wiring you want.
Always just turn headlights off. When you get out of this truck so many lights come on it will be hard to run all of them down. Backup, brake and interior lights will have to be run down and put on switches. Guess it is going to take a lot of head scratching with trial and error to figure it all out.
Hookup switch to brake pedal wire.
remove backup bulbs.
remove interior light bulbs and bed lite bulbs.
hookup your own interior light and if needed exterior lights on new switch.
I guess it will all have to be run down and placed on seperate switches. All the lights I want to cut off will be needed most of the time. Bet it is going to be a lot of switches. Last three trucks have been fairly easy but this one is going to be a bear.
Lets see you need a wiring diagram for your truck. You can get that from ALLDATA
You won't need access for too long. Then you will need
lock out (Door lights,Brake, reveres lamps) headlights are ease just don't
turn them on. So what you need is 3 relays,a fuse and a switch to lock out the lamps.
You should have a little LED to let you know that it is active. Very easy thing to make.
With the diagram in hand and the plug location charts. About the only thing you could
have problems wit his the green data display center in the dash. But a black card can
be used to block that light if it shows too much. Or if you feel like taking that on
a forth relay to kill it.
Basically what you would be doing is not letting power flow from to the relays in the
truck that normally control these lamps by interruption of the coil voltage that is
why the extra relays you use the normally closed contacts that way when they are
unpowered it all works like stock. Turn the switch on and the LED glows and the NEW AUX relays change to an open state and block the flow of power and you
have no lamps on. If you need to add any more lamps just add a relay.
