Had a little mishap with a railroad crossing arm that landed on my hood. Looking to replace the hood with a matching color take off from a new truck. Trying to figure out the best approach at doing this without further damage. Any suggestions? I would like to minimize cost as much as I can. The hood is heavy, awkward and large but I'm wondering if there is any way I could do this myself or should I have a body shop do it?
I can't help you with a new hood, but I will ask just how did you have a "mishap" with a RR gate? Only way I know to do that is by trying to beat a train and/or not paying attention while coming up to a RR crossing. WTF?
Best way on these big trucks is three people. one on either hinge and one up front holding the hood up. You might get lucky and find one at a wrecking yard. Try car-part.com

wasn't trying to beat a train i wouldn't do that. was in a part of town i wasn't familiar with. the light was green and the road had a slight right onto another one. there was barely enough room for a small car to be there between the end of one road and the gate. just as i turned the corner i heard the dinging and saw the lights blinking. i quickly stopped, threw the truck in reverse but it didn't move don't know if it was some type of safety lockout or what but it didn't move. so i threw it in park and then back in reverse, it engaged, but by that time the gate was on my hood so i had no choice but to wait until the tram went through and the gate went back up to move so i didn't have more damage.
i already have a like new factory take off in matching color.
