Grille interchange

I bought a '70 f100 custom cab that needs a grille
Will any 67-72 grille bolt in? I know they look different through the years....
Thanks

The best answer is sort of. The main difference is the stone guard under the grille. '67-'69 has a narrower recess in the turn signal area than the '70-'72. The '70 grille is all alone as far as outer shell & inserts are concerned. The '71 & '72 shell will hold either '71 or '72 inserts. The '70 shell holds only the '70 inserts. I have a '67 grille in my '70 but need to swap out the stone guard for the earlier guard.

1967/69 parking lamps mount into the grille below the headlamps, above the stone shield. The stone shield is dished below the grille at either end for grille clearance.

1970/72 parking lamps mount to the stone shield below the grille.

1967/69 grilles are either painted steel (Standard Cabs) or anodized aluminum (Custom Cabs/Rangers).

1970 anodized aluminum grille shell is 1970 only. The plastic "egg crate" grille inserts are also 1970 only and are the same right/left.

1971/72's use a different anodized aluminum shell than 1970. The plastic grille inserts are right & left specific.

1971 grille inserts are a slightly different style than 1972.

My father bought my '71 new. He hit a cow and bent the grille shell. I found a used '70 grille shell that I had always (assumed) was the same. I got by with it by bending some tabs and drilling and adding some screws. It didn't look too bad from a distance

From day one until the puppy was obsoleted, when you bought a 1970 shell shell, the plastic grille inserts were included and were installed.

The grille inserts were also available by themselves.

Take the inserts out, you can see the tabs that the right/left same grille inserts attach to.

Now look at these tabs on a 1971/72 shell, they're located in a different place as the grille inserts are right and left specific.

I too bought a 1971 brand new, Ranger XLT 390/C6 with every factory option.

I got so close to a 100% on this 1. I would say I definitely hit at least an 80% which would be a B in school. Bill you are a fountain of information that will never be totally be tapped. How you remember all this stuff amazes me!

My '70 grill is trash. Would the entire grill assembly off of any given 67-72 truck fit on my '70? Assuming I can find a doner
That's the question I should've asked first

It's a shame there isn't a reasonably priced new grille being made....

It has been answered. The additional information is to help you with what you will need to do whatever grille you choose.

I also remember them being weak. I'm in a farming community and you could expect any '70 actually used as a truck to have portions of the grille broken.
