All . . . . . My engine oil level is reading three inches above the full mark on the dip stick. Do you think there could be diesel fuel or water in the oil system?
Notice that the dip stick is not that easy to read.
Has anyone seen this problem??
Could this be related to my poor fuel mileage? It can't be doing my engine any good.
Three inches wow thats alot. Yes it will effect economy. If under warranty id be be letting them fiqure that out. Certaintly someone didnt change your oil and way overfill it.
My stupid dealer has been putting in 15 quart of 15w-40 like the 6.0 & 6.4 engines require. Even after taking the truck back, they still got it wrong! I asked for the 10w30 and showed them the oil cap. Never again! I'll do my own changes.

I hope that is the case for my truck . . . . the tech may have put too much oil in there. It wasn't that long ago I had an oil change.
How many quarts does the 6.7 engine need.
thanks ken

13 quarts, I was about an inch up the stick with my last change from the dealer.
With 13 quarts prior to starting after a change, it is slightly above the fill line. EDIT: actually thats 12 quarts in the pan because I put close to 1 quart in the new filter (left over to the pan).
If you drive it for 10 miles and let it sit overnight, 13 quarts is about half way to the fill line.
My truck's first oil change at the dealer was one inch over the fill line after overnight soak.
I continue to be shocked at dealers adding 15 quarts to the 6.7L...
I preordered my truck, that I can understand; it was new.
Now we are over two years into the 6.7L and the oil changers aren't reading the documentation.

Just changed my oil this evening - 13 quarts. I used the dealer only once for the first change. For the second change I went to the parts department for a filter and oil and they tried to sell me 15 quarts. Hmmm.
I'm still happy with the truck which just passed the 47,000 mile mark today.
FWIW I was concerned about the same thing (as it appeared to me). I had the truck tech come out and check it; showed me how I was reading it wrong.
I am taking my truck into the dealer today and see what they say. It shouldn't be rocket science, but maybe there is a unique way to measure the oil level. If I can I will get an oil sample.
I will give them hell if they are putting 15 quarts in the 6.7 trucks.

Depending on the temperatures where you live 15/40 weight diesel oil is fine for the 6.7 engine as long it is above 20 degrees F. My dipstick reads half way between full and add after 13 quarts.
Same issue here and I've been doing the oil changes myself. 13qts always go in. What confuses me is that I let the oil drain for 20 minutes and when I try and measure the oil that I've drained, including the oil filter, I never get 13qts out...always a quart or two (guessing) short.
Yet, my oil level on the dipstick is always showing full or a little over.

I understand that, but I was going to Canada snowmobiling last winter. Why can't they just do what they are told?
I measured the oil that I drained after the second dealer attempt at getting it right, it was 15.25 quarts. Blackstone labs confirmed the 15w-40 and said no damage was done from the overfilling.
The dealers have a maintence program that is/was not updated. So the idiots just use the old 6.0/6.4 program.
As a side note, I asked the dealer to install an engine block heater, but they refused, saying that "you will never need it because it will start at -40." I installed that myself for very little cost. It ain't just somehow getting the thing started, but it is much better for the engine if it is warmed a bit.
