I showed the look in my build thread, its normally in my signature but I'm on my phone right now and it doesn't post my signature. Hopefully this link will work, if not do a search for "Abby" https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s....php?t=1184536
It does the most on a 56, but makes for a nice subtle effect on a 53-55
Here's one that wasn't rounded, but should have been. The top corner of the door next to the windshield. Look around and notice how everything around it is smoothed and rounded. The drip rail was removed, and there are no square corners or angles anywhere except the top of the door. It just looks out of place. It looks like it may have had some work done, but not enough, imho. I saw a gorgeous maroon 55 just in the last couple of days that was as nice or nicer custom, and that corner looked even worse than this one. Knocking the edge of that angle down to match the door glass radius would have made all the difference in the world. It's the little details that will make it or break it.
Rounding hood, trunk, and door corners was a popular custom mod in the 50s and 60s. You recut the corner with a smooth radius instead of a sharp corner, transplanting the cut off piece to the corner of the panel opening. It gives a smoother more fitted appearance like two jigsaw puzzle pieces fitting together. It is most effective when the panel gap spacing is adjusted to be even all around. As often happens the auto manufacturers picked up on the effect. Witness the recent commercial where a ball bearing rolls along the panel gap. to promote the fit quality.
To do it you cut a piece off the door with a very thin disc and weld it to the cab and add a strip inside. And weld the door edge you cut. Real easy and greatly improves the look. I made a template off the curve of the door at the upper back side. I can explain better if you like.
