1997 F350 CCLB 4x4 7.3l
Just seems to not have what I would expect that it should!
4" straight exhaust stock intake no other after market stuff
No dash lights on
Checked the fuel pressure is about 50-55lbs at idle after a BB and fuel bowl rebuild.
Cleaned the EBP sensor tube, tried the sensor connected and disconected.
tried with ICP connected and disconnected (oil in the connector) I have one comming original ford no less
tried to replace the cam sensor (ran worse)???? Grey looking for a black one.
with it running i unplugged each injector harness and it noticably ran funkier.
idles fairly well, but seems to defuel or bog
boost at idle is 0 cruising on the freeway about 4lbs. heavy throttle in passing gear at about 60 jumps to about 14lbs.
I have a gauge and planned on checking the HPOP pressure but need a few fittings to do so. Also considering MAP but really do not want to throw money away.
Any ideas with out chassing the gremlins for weeks or months?
BTW it is an auto but seems to really shift nice no noticed slips and firmly transitions.
If your fuel pressure is good, and its stock except an exhaust, what are you expecting? Don't take that as me being rude please. Is your truck 4x4? 250 or 350? Dual wheel or single? 3.55 or 4.10 gearing?
They are kinda doggy stock man. The stock downpipe is extremely restrictive, as well as the stock air box.
Have driven any others like yours? I'm just wondering. My 350 dually crew was a dog. My 250 regular cab single wheel with mods is anything but.
3" mandrel downpipe. The last powerstroke I drove was also a 97 but it was about 7 years ago and I have owned a stock 2005 Cummins and a semi built 99 Cummins.
So yeah i may have been expecting a little more than "reasonable".
That is exactly the input I am looking for.
I plan on doing the DIY air filter mod and that may wake up and use the exhaust a little better?
Throw a 6637 on it first. Clean your bowl filter screen, make sure the fuel is decent (I always run diesel clean), check your fuel filter when you clean the screen too. If its got the 3.55 gears that def doesn't help them for brute power feeling.
So it's a one one ton 4x4 with exhaust. Can't expect much, its a heavy old pig.
How many miles? Do a little checking around and maybe swap some fluids and filters, cheap enough. Make sure your fueling system is clean.
A tuner and some boom sticks will wake that thing right up assuming everything else is in order.
And it didn't help that your were driving a newer cummins which is just way more power than our old trucks too.
Unplug the electrical connection on the MAP sensor and take it for a ride see it it does better. If it does you could have a stopped up MAP hose or a bad MAP
So I got a new ICP installed now with the MAP connected or disconnected it seems to run the same.
It is much better than before so I think that the ICP was the culprete. So i think that the next couple things are a Water/Methanol injection kit and a 6 postchip. Gauges obviosly or monitoring computer (thoughts? want, boost, EGT, tranny temp, HPOP would also be great)
BTW got the HPOP gauge on and it looks like about 750 at warm start up however could not measure at speeds. But from what I read 750 should be good low seems to be in the 500's? Thoughts?
should satisfy my desire to feel the power when towng for now.
Anybody know if the speedo calibration being off can change how a truck drives? I mean does the speedo effect other sensor functions on the motor and tranny?
Thanks
PS I know it a lot. Just looking for expierienced input and where better to get it.
um,I was rereading your post here.I may be crazy but with your regulator shimmed that pressure seems a bit low.I only very slightly shimmed mine from 50 stock to 60 with a trim nail cut off and turned uside down.My fuel pump is only a few thousand miles old.
How old is your fuel pump? Im not saying it is your ultimate problem but it could be getting weak im thinking.
