It's probably a dealer only kind of part. I searched and found no suppliers for a stock type part other than Ford. Aftermarket ones are all adjustable, for use on lifted trucks. It is also known as a panhard rod, but Ford calls it a track bar. It's the bar that goes from the chassis at upper right, diagonally down to the axle lower left, and it centers the axle in the truck.
Thanks, Rusty! My dealer here wanted $307 for all the parts plus another 4 hours labor to replace them... don't know how long it will take to replace those three parts, but there's no way 4 hours can be right!
Tousley had all three for a total of $187 in parts and I'll do the work myself...
Just out of curiosity (aimed at our Ford techs here)... is it acceptable for a dealer to charge more than MSRP for an OEM part? All the prices they had on their quote were $10-15 above MSRP as per Tousley...
Ok, parts from Tousley should be here early next week... Is there anything I have to do in the way of adjusting things, or just install them and take it in for an alignment? How long should swapping trackbar, trackbar ball joint, and steering dampener take a novice mechanic with a good understanding of mechanics and a good collection of tools?
Sure man, glad to help! I read somewhere Tousley's is cost plus 10 or 15%. I still use my local dealership sometimes but if I have time to wait I order from them. Shipping is generally pretty quick also.
Track bar
Track bar ball joint
Steering dampener
Alignment (after install of above parts)
None of these parts would normaly cause Vibration maybe a Bad Dampner maybe
Tire wear and alignment/pull one way or other would normaly be what you get if Above said parts were Bad
You should be able to change all these no biggie
As Far as the Inner Axel Tube seal if your going in that far may as well do Balljoints to personaly I would wait till you need BallJoints unless you drive in alot of water thats deep enough to get in there. There is an Updated part for that. But pretty common to see those axel seal hanging there not doing anything
I bet the vibration will go away with new tires that are balanced
Yeah, I probably did mean ball joints... On my last truck I had some bad front end parts and that's what they mechanic showed me how to do. He probably said ball joints, but I remembered u joints... Still learning all this stuff!

Probably What?????????????????????????????????LOL
Dave Here how I do It for BallJoints
Pull the Tire and Push & Pull on the steering Knuckle/Hub Top and bottom there should be No Play on the Verticle Line its easy this way because you do Not have to Overcome the Weight of the Tire for thjis method since the tire is OFF
I know the Guys at the Shops Lift the Car and take a Bar and tweeek it to check for play But unless your Good At it Odds are you wont tweek it right anyway and 1/8th inch play is Bad
As Far as the U~Joints you Spin them to check leave truck on ground and in 2WD
Turn right and spin
turn left and spin
Straight ahead and turn
