Bad vibrations
The truck has had all of this replaced in the last 20k miles or so - all by me, and all rechecked today to make sure nothing has gone wrong:
- both upper and lower ball joints replaced
- wheel bearings replaced
- entire steering linkage, including every pitman joints as well as the steering gear box (now using redhead) replaced
- sway bar bushings and links replaced
- track bar bushings replaced
I just checked the truck and there's basically zero play in the wheel bearings and the ball joints are solid. Same goes for the steering joints.
I had the front tires go out of balance and that has made the shake terrible above 60, after having the tires rebalanced, however, the shake is gone and only apparent when even small bumps are encountered.
The shake feels like the wheels are "loose" - the entire steering system feels like it wants to go in whichever direction.
I haven't done any work on the leafspring bushings and while under the truck i noticed a difference between the left and right side front leafspring mounts - not sure this is relevant, but the left doesn't have a pin going through the bottom and appears to be slightly shifted. See photos.
Anything else I ought to check? There really isn't much to this suspension so I'm at a bit of a loss - might hang a gopro down there and see if I can catch this in action...
Front left, the shaking starts around 1:50:
Front right, starts around 1:48:
