I have a 2011 XLT super cab 5.0 off road package 3.73 elocker. I have 19789 mi on it. I have averaged 18.6 mpg overall. Matter of fact last trip we took with five people in cab and luggage I got exactly 20 mpg at probably 90 percent hwy and 10 percent city on a 2200 mile trip. I love the tuck. Smooth as silk and plenty of power. I started using premium fuel and performance DOES IMPROVE noticeably. I get a bit better fuel mileage also with premium. Just enough to pay for the difference in price.
As for the synch system....its too complicated but I like the hands free phone and music features. I have not had any trouble with the synch system. You just need the manual and a good memory to use it for anything but music and phone.
The difference between the 2011 and 2012 was almost nothing....the 2013 have different wheel options and different grills. Also the center stack has been changed and rearanged but the rest of the interior and exterior is the same. The HIGH end models get HID headlamps. Theres a few color changes and details...but to say its NIGHT and DAY different is a stretch.. http://www.profleetsales.com/order_guides.html This link with give you all the details of the changes in the 2013 Ford models.
The high end 2013's are nice for sure, but not enough for me to fork out the extra cash. Lots of good deals on brand new 2012's right now until they run out. I'm planning on ordering in the Ford HID's for my truck if I can. Just downloading a pic of the new truck on to the computer now.
2011 F150 Lariat 2WD 5.0L Super Crew, 3.55-1 with 7,100 lb. GVWR package: Computer sez overall MPG with 7110 miles on the clock: 14.8.
Post 3: 21 MPG @ 65 MPH? Truck must be heading down a long steep hill, lotta those in CO. What MPG do you get when you climb up the hills?
One gallon of 87 octane here in LA LA Land is $4.69. Last time I filled this 3 ton oversized tub, cost me $98.00.
I don't have to fill it again...ever, cuz it went bye bye 10/15. Replaced it with the Escape listed in sig.
Yes, I agree the fuel bill sucks! My wife has a 2010 Escape limited that we drive for long trips. My new truck is for hauling the boat and going camping in the summer. I drive it to work most days, but I only have a 5 min commute.
I agree with the HID headlights. They make the truck look cool.....BUTTTT......I am betting once you see the price you might reconsider. OR..maybe work out a deal with the dealer parts department...that is if they fit???? My wife smashed in a head lamp assybly on my sons AUDI......the Audi assimbly is much smaller than the one on the ford..but one cost us ONE>...for 635 dallors..for ONE>..damn headlight assymbly
I am really sold on the 5.0 engine....and if you research enough and compare enough peoples information..you will find in everyday real life it gets about the same mileage as the ecoboost. I use premium fuel...theres a considerable difference in power over regular. ONE dyno test said premium gave it 21 more HP. That sounds about right when you read info from ford regarding the 5.0 in the mustang. I have driven the ecoboost and the 6.2....and ....in test drives..I honestly could not tell much difference in power between all engines. ...zero to 60 times in like trucks reads.... twd ecoboost crew cab...6 seconds flat....6.2 seconds for the 6.2 motor and 6.4 for the 5.0....damn little difference..for the dollars...IF money and fuel mileage is NO problem..HELL>>>I would get the 6.2....its a gas guzzler compared to the others...but...ya know...its bigger..lol.....but thats just me.
I know what everyone thinks.... the HP rating in the 6.2 is 411hp and 365hp for the ecoboost and 360 for the 5.0. how could performance be close to the same. I think ford is really sandbagging on the 5.0 numbers. and the ecoboost numbers..so do many of the media people think the same that tested the motors. when the 5.0 gets wound up...it runs like a scadid dog especially when using premium fuel. Low end torque is better with the ecoboost...but not as much as the numbers might indicate.

I plan on filling with premium the first chance I can. Thanks for the tip. Ya the HID's will probably cost WAY too much.... might not be worth it but we'll see.
was thinking of buying a 12 ecoboost, but after reading on the (CAC) charged air cooler issues, im leaning towards the 5.0? is this issue as bad as it sounds and wondering how many are having issues

Well I'll say this. The internet is a dumping ground for complaints. you won't read much good here at all even though most on this board haven't had any issues.
Yes, there is an issue but I think it's not nearly as wide spread as people make it out to be. Good luck with your choice.

I'm also on the bubble re: ecoboost due to the reports. The "buy 2012 vs 2013" is also an issue.
Oh well, soon the 2012's will be gone and it will be 2013: Ecoboost or not?
Ford has supposedly remade their intercooler to address the issues with the ecoboost...so only time will tell if they have succeeded. Honestly it will not stop me from buying one...as Tim has said there are so many people that come to forums when they have a problem...not just to sing the praises of their vehicles.
Also when lets say 5 people experience the same problem it seems like it is a widespread problem when in reality it is 5 people on one website compared to all those vehicles on the road with people that have never even heard of this site or any site.
Bought our '12 Ecoboost 157" Lariat with 3.55el about 5 weeks ago. When I drove the 3 hour trip back to my house from the dealership I was pulling an unloaded 20' utility trailer 10,400lb rated. Traded both car and pickup for this new one to explain the trailer. Figured that it had a ship weight somewhere in the ballpark of 2600lbs. From leaving the dealership (first time ever driving the ECO) I pulled for the first 250 miles (approx) and 3 hours so I knew no different on how this truck would perform by itself. Absolutely no complaints while pulling, lots of good power under moderate acceleration and the factory brake controller... Seamless stopping. When I picked up the truck the trip had never been reset, nor had the instant Eco. It read 18.7mpg avg (computer) for its first 582 miles. Was traded by 2 dealerships in western NE until I picked it up and the drove it 300 miles to where I bought it. By the time I got back to Hays my avg econ was reading 14.9 I ran 3 over the limit the entire trip so basically 63-68. passed a handful of times and couldn't tell I was still pulling an "unloaded" trailer. Had to stop once to feed the 4 month old so I had a 30 min idle there. Pretty much as everyday situation as I think it would ever get and I know our old '08 5.4 with 3.55ls would have been around 11.3-12.2 on the very same trip. I it would have kicked down at ever moderate hill doing so as well. 5.4 was a solid very good motor, but when it came to power and efficiency, it was quite a slouch pulling. Using it as a car was great as long as long as it had a 30 mile trip or better. Anything under 10-15 miles per run it suffered horribly, as most would but I know our Eco does at least 4-5mpg better doing the same day-to-day tasks. I didn't ever test drive an ecoboost or a 5.0 until I bought our ecoboost and have 0 complaints. Do miss the V8 sound though. Other than that no regrets.
As stated we hear all the bad things posted on the net. Some are also completely ficticious posts according to an article I read on MSN auto, some people are haters. Take it like a prescription warning ...if one in 10,000 have an issue its posted and taken as the gospel???
I wouldnt be afraid of the ecoboost. I bought the 5.0 because I have been reading about it for some time and was impressed at the design. It has been used in mustang class race cars ( version of it) for several years before in went into production for the street. I would have bought the 6.2 in 2011 but it wasnt available in what I wanted or could afford. I am just a V-8 person. I did drive the ecoboost and as I stated in an earlier post...it had a bit more low end torgue but once the 5.0 hit the sweet spot I honestly couldnt tell and difference in power. I know on a stop watch the ecoboost is fastest to 60 mph of all the ford engines in the f-150. TRY PREMIUM FUEL IN ANY OF THE 4 ENGINES....YOU MIGHT BE IMPRESSED AT THE POWER DIFFERENCE I was. Especially the low end torgue increase premium gives to my 5.0.
