I have a 1951 F1 with a flathead and was considering putting a electronic cooling fan in her. Has anyone done this and if so any recommendations? Are they fairly simple to install? Thanks in advance.
As long as your cooling system is operating properly, your stock fan setup should function just fine. If you have a true overheating issue, it's better to find and cure the cause than to start chasing a problem with band aids. Once you pass 20 mph there's more air flowing through the rad than the fan can pull. Unless your top speed is 5 mph and all you'll be doing is driving in parades, I'd save the money and effort for something more important. That's my 2c.
check out post #56. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post12161850
my neighbor gave it to me. It is the perfect width and the top and bottom bracket were simple and easy to make. I have a much different situation than you do. I would have had to fabricate a cowl. I'm sure this thing cost a pretty penny and I wouldn't pay for one if there was a simple cowl available to solve the problem.
Ilya, You really think the shroud would make a bit of a difference? As far as the door, the handle seems to be holding its own, it is still sagging and sloppy. Thanks again
A shroud does make a difference because it contains and directs the air better going to the radiator. Also, check to make sure that the hood has an air deflector and that it's in the correct position.
Sorry to hear about the door handle. I couldn't find anything else wrong with it besides what I found and repaired.
Someone could make a small fortune if the door latch mechanisms would be reproduced.
One draw back I've seen to using a electric fan is that some electric fan motors seem to be loud. I just like hearing the motor/flat head more so then a humming electric motor.
Ilya, You really think the shroud would make a bit of a difference? ...
I'm running a 3-bladed fan from a car on my truck, with a shroud, and it runs at the proper temp even in traffic on 90+ deg days. Without a shroud the air recirculates from behind the fan to the front side.
