05 No start..

I know there are lots of "no start" threads out there, but I'd like to get some fresh thoughts. I have a thread running about FICM issues, but wanted to start a new one for consolidation. OK 2005 6.0 123.xxx miles, was only getting 40v from a newly repaired FICM,so he went and got new batts, due anyway,he ordered a new FICM from Ford, haven't checked voltage yet,we're doing that tomorrow but it still will not start. The other day while cranking the ICP would jump immediately to 1400.ish,is that normal to jump that high while cranking, has a little more than a quarter tank of fuel, oil was just changed recently,he said all the fuses looked good we'll double check that too.Tomorrow we are dig into it early so I'm hoping you guys could give me some ideas on things to check. I do have AE so hopefully we can get it diagnosed. Thanks and sorry for such a long post...Phil

the new ficm will need programmed from Ford

Better to send the Old FICM to get fixed its cheaper and the end result will be better as far as I know the new ficm from ford are still Flawed solder joints and weak parts within

The Guys that rebuild FICM address all these issues the OEM FICM suffers from

OK,I talked to him earlier and he ordered the FICM from somewhere, but it wasn't Ford,I'll know more tomorrow. Will any FICM other than the one that was on it originally have to be programmed from Ford?,will AE show anything if it needs to be programmed? Sorry for the lack of info on my part tonight,my BIL owns a haunted trail and its pretty crazy around here on weekends this time of year, but tomorrow we're gonna do more checking on his truck...Thanks..

Well some companies will program the FICM before it goes out He would have to tell them the stratigy he is running or something. I think he would know if it was coming programmed

He could also get a FICM Half shell it shouldnt need programmed its only power half though but since his was at 40Volts that might be all he Needs

It should throw a DTC if it needs Programed However I hear they will start the truck if not programmed

Might also be worth checking Batterys and the Alternator

Check All the FICM stuff
FICM MP 48volt
FICM LP 12 volt or battery +
FICM VP 12 volt or B+

Yeah he sent his off to get it worked on,it came with a lifetime warrenty, but after he put it back in it still wouldn't start, and was only showing 40v,with a logic v of like 9ish,he went and got new batts because he had issues before and still no go. He ordered a reman FICM(don't know where from,I tried to get him to deal with Ed but it didn't work) and he put it in and it still wouldn't start. I'm going over after lunch with AE and do some checking,I'll post back up my findings..

UPDATE!!

OK,it turns out the #5 fuse under the hood,a 50amp,was blown. I knew it had to be something besides the FICM,I knew his original was bad because the truck was still running but running bad and showing I think 35 to 38volts.But after having his FICM redone and after putting in a reman from somewhere else I was getting the same readings(40 volts out and logic of 10).FWIW I wasn't getting any response doing a KOEO injector test, also wasn't getting any FIPW with AE...What could cause this fuse to blow?..

Wow thats weird I would have thought if the 50amp fuse was Blown your FICM MP would have been 0 Not 40volt

so you changed that fuse 50amp and ALL went GOOD 48volts Ficm and 12+volts on the other 2???

Hows His alternator????If the voltage regulator is going that might explain a blown fuse

Yep,replaced the 50a fuse, she cranked about 5seconds and fired up.After it started the FICM mp was 48v...BUT the vehicle volts(battery) was only like 12.5ish...HMM alternator "going"?..New batts but they had worked a little with the no start thing but didn't have to be jumped,it was turning very fast too..

That 12 volts is normal till the Glow Plugs turn Off

The alternator wont turn on till Glow Plugs turn Off

Now if he Had 12 volts and truck had ran longer than 2 minutes the alternator is going out
