88 Ranger STX brake master cyl,why so rare?

i have an 88 Ranger STX 4x4, replaced the brake master cyl back in '07, had no problems getting a replacement, and it was priced about the same as every other ranger master cyl.. now I need to replace it again, and it is 2X the price, and every parts store has to special order it.. what gives? and what makes the STX model master cyl so special other than the ports are on the engine side, instead of the fender side like XLT/standard rangers?

I think you answered your own question...

I'm thinking that parts stores only stock what is commonly in demand - anything that is only used on a few select vehicles would have to be special ordered...

Also, the age of the truck might have something to do with it...

Just a thought...
