Injector issues
I have a 2 99 F350 4X4s with a 6.8s and both automatics. One is a daily driver with 160,xxx the other is more of a toy and has 75,xxx . Both of the trucks have had this mystery problem randomly with out warning not cranking over. Turn the key a few times you hear the starter engaged and "clunk".
After a few attempts the motor spins just fine and fires up rough and dumps tons of white smoke that smells of raw fuel. My ford tech buddy said that is caused from a bad injector leaking and hydro locking the cylinder .When we plugged it in to the ford service computer it would only read the spark not the injector flow. it showed #4 cylinder had a weaker spark then the rest. But not low enough to make it run as rough as it is , so again points to injector on #4 not working properly .
So first question has any one else had a similar issue?
Second has any one replaced just one injector and had success on a high mileage rig?
Third has anyone used and aftermarket or larger injectors? Stock seem to be 19lbs but I found Southbay injectors has a set of 10 that are 22lbs ?

I have heard of some of these motors having leaky injectors - be careful - you can bend a rod or spin a bearing ...
Larger injectors requires a tune to make up the difference.
The next time it won't crank over, stop. Pull all the plugs and see which cylinder is filled with gas
Pain in the butt to do, but it's the only way to narrow it down without guessing and hoping you pick the correct one. Or, replace them all

That is what I suspected . I guess it is going to get 10 new injectors and 10 new plugs . I am also going to put on a set of banks headers (i got them free) and a new exhaust system . I see a lot of guys run the 5-star tuner what kind of gains are you getting ?
