differential
1. where the drive shaft meets the yoke...a 4 way knuckle is between them, the yoke spins on a bearing inside the diff but has a outer oil seal, any "wetness" or dripping would indicate a leak.
2. diff cover seal, most cases not likely un less it had been altered or the cover was removed and not enough RTV was applied..
3 and 4.
Are the axel shaft seals, need to jack the rear end up and remove the brake drums and rims. You may be able to see some oil leakage with out taking tires off by crawling under the truck and looking for wetness on the bottom sides of the brake drums.
If the axel seals are bad you prolly will have to replace the brake shoes as they may be contaminated with oil.
good luck!
thank you for the reply. are there any other places that a differential can be other than in the rear?
there is a nice explanation of how differentials work on "how stuff works" they even describe the different kinds and have animated pics if you're looking for information about them.
