Kettle Sound

Sometime when I am cruising down the road, I can hear a kettle sound. From inside the truck it sounds like its coming from somewhere on the passenger side, but its hard to tell. It has been doing it for almost a year now, hasnt gotten worse or better...but stays relatively the same. Its only every now and then! It can be when I am on the accelerator, or when I let off the accelerator.

Any one know what this could be??

Cheers,

Or an EGR cooler, or just a bad cap. Replace the cap, and put a pressure gauge on the degas bottle, or pressure test the EGR cooler.

I thought about this. But wouldn't there be some other symptoms too along with it? Overheating...puking, etc?

I also get a faint smell of exhaust in the cab from time to time. Is that another symptom of a leaking up pipe?

Soot where it shouldn't be, like on the insulation on the firewall.

Any good way to check for this? I would imagine it would have to be at a spot where I am not losing coolant...prob too small for the naked eye? Or are you speaking of a larger crack?

My driver side up-pipe was replaced in August 2011 due to a crack. It made a whistling noise like a kettle at times and did not leave any soot on the firewall. It was cracked inside the flex tubing.

Ford replaced it as the truck was under warranty until May 2012.

Is the up-pipe pretty tough to get to?
