Wel,l it has been sometime since I was on this site. It really helped me out several years ago when I had a problem with the door latch. Anyway I returned with a problem with the speed sensor. The original sensor lasted will up to 200,000 miles. It was replaced in September of 2011. It was very wet back then, we think there might have been some water isues that contributed to it's failure. No big deal things break and wear out. Back in June of this year... a regular day, BAM, hard shifts, just as I trun into the neighborhood the whole thing shuts down. It fires back up an to the local garge I go. We replace the sensor again. Last night (lots of rain) a few hundred feet up the road from leaving work and BAM, hard shifts, speedo jumping all over the dial. 45 miles of open road, (only 4 or 5 traffic lights) hard shifts leaving the lights I did not catch on green, as I turn into the neighbor hood... it shuts down. Turn of the key and we get home. This morning it runs perfect.
Shuld I go to the Ford dealer and see about getting a FOMOCO sensor? Do they manufacture better ones than the local parts store? Maybe if I spread some silicon sealant over the sensor area it would reduce the chances of water, moisture affecting the sensor. I have not changed it out myself, maybe I should learn how to, and keep a spare under the seat.
