Steering Stabilizer shock

I have quick and probably stupid question? I'm having that death wobble like everyone else is having or had that is on here. I did a search and came up with a lot of great threads. My question is I have a stock 2005 f250 with a powerstroke. Should I just replace my oem shock stabilizer ( 135000 miles on it)or take that off and install a upgraded one or even a dual? If I do go with a aftermarket one does it go in the same place where the oem one went? I want to fix that dame death wobble. Scares the crap out of me!!!!

Thanks

I replaced mine with an aftermarket single and it is fine, even with oversize tires. It bolted up the same as factory.

Is there a complete kit for installing one on a truck that never came with one from the factory?

At minimum I would replace the oem shock. From what I have heard I think the aftermarket setup words better because if how it mounts. With that amount of miles might also wanna check out all your front end parts to make sure they are still tight because that is a leading cause of the wobble as well.

Yes, a kit is available for trucks that came w/o the stabilizer - Moog (used to be Superlift) & Rancho are 2 I know of.

Thanks big daddy and bigpipes. I am leaning toward getting a aftermarket setup, would I still need to replace my old shock. Or since I'm going to do a new setup I would just leave the oem shock in since the aftermarket setup looks like i should install it under my axle? Tis weekend I'm gonna have a look under the frontend and make sure everything is tight. I'm scared what I will find under there. Hahahhaa

If you install an aftermarket setup you will remove the stocker.

At 135,000 miles you probably need ball joints on at least one side if they are originals.

If you go with aftermarket, check out Top Gun Customz. They build a nice dual setup that has a bracket that bolts on with the front diff bolts. I am buying this soon, I know one other guy that has it and it fixed his problems. You can get it loaded with different types of shocks too, depending on you budget.

at 130k, my dads 6.0 needs drivers side ball joints. at 137k i just replaced the outer tie rod end on the passenger side on his 6.0. if u turn ur wheels while someone is watching, u might be able to see play somewhere. if u turn them all the way one way or the other u may fell a clunk which is usually a ball joint, or it is for me at least on my 99 f250. also, i would upgrade to bilstein shock, or at least something better than the rs5000 ranchos. ive heard that a single stabilizer isnt quite enough to fix the wobble, but a dual is a bit overkill. i have heard many things on it tho. i would replace all shock with bilstein if i were u and add a bilstein stabilizer, but i like bilstein, you may be different

Since you are stock, most options (as far as I know) will only be able to run a single SS. To run a dual, most of the time, you will need at least a 2" lift to clear everything, FYI.
From us F-250 2005 the P/N is RS5413 bolts to the OE mount

I'd suggest that you take a look at the TSB for 'wheel oscillation'.

Tire pressure, alignment, front-end parts, etc should all be checked out.

The Bilstein 5100 single stabilizer is a great choice for a replacement.

Snelldawg, I did take a look at the TBS, half the stuff they talk about I'm clueless at. I'm not a mechanic. I can do little projects but when it come to taking out the steering wheel and replace or add some shims on to a part I'm in the dark. I'm gonna try replacing my steering stabilizer and look under the frontend and go from there. If it continues then I'm going to have to bite the bullet and take it to a shop for frontend work...yikes

Thanks everyone for all our help
