Josh sent me a replacement cowl vent for my late '50 F-1 that he said came out of a '51-52 truck. The one that was on my truck is made of two pieces of sheet metal bonded together. The newer one is just one piece of sheet metal with a channel welded to it. I'm planning to use the newer one since it looks like a better design but i'm curious if anyone knows when the change in design took place. Does anyone have an original '50 truck with the newer design cowl vent?
There was a whole thread on this about 8 months ago, try a search. I believe 52 Merc posted in it.
Thanks, Ross. I found the old thread. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...vent-lids.html
The one originally on my truck had the 3 vent holes some of the guys described in the thread. They didn't really solve the rust problem because even with them there's a lot of rust rattling around inside. Still wonder when the changeover actually took place. My truck was built in Dallas in August, '50 so the change was probably made when the '51's came out a few months later.
i had a 50 f2 parts truck and it had the same type of lid design. it was so full of rust.
I think it was a late 50 sept or october if i remember right?
hope the vent looks and works good for you. I didnt realize how many extra of those i had until i started looking through the boxes.
now that you have one 51 52 parts you should keep going anf swap out that grill for.a good looking 51/52 grill! ive got one here for you.
just messin with ya.
AFAIK, that was one of the many small items that were changed at the beginning of the 1951 model year. Except for Canada. Interestingly, my Canadian vent door did not have the 3 drain holes.
