Hey guys. New to the forum as I just got ahold of a '94 250 supercab w/460 and 4x4. I've looked on here for a few days and there's alot of good information, but I couldn't find exactly the answer to my question.
Question is that my truck looks as though it has auto locking hubs, but when I disassembled them earlier today to both inspect and replace the rotor, I noticed it had what appears to be a manual type spindle nut pair. Starting from the inside out, it has the bearings/races, then an inside spindle nut, locking washer, and another spindle nut. Then the hub goes in which has a couple cam type gears that don't seem to engage with the axle. I'm going to switch to manual hubs but want to ask if I still need the conversion kit since it already has two spindle nuts? Sorry for being long winded, but couldn't explain too well.
I did a auto to manual conversion on my 93 f150. They do sell and advertise "auto to manual conversion kits" and they are relatively cheap but literally all it is is two new locking nuts for each side that look exactly like the old ones! I couldn't tell the difference, for all I know they suckered me in but I didn't want to screw anything up and I already bought em and they were relatively cheap. I may not be much help in this case but i'd buy em unless someone can give you a for sure why or why not they are different and for what purpose.
EDIT: kit includes 2 new locking nuts and a locking washer per side. What I reffered to as the locking washer you reffered to as the spindle nut

Reason: clarification
i had auto locking hubs on my truck and replaced them with milemarker hubs and didnt need anything else. The locking nuts and lock collar shouldnt have anything to do with the hub part.

Thanks in advance, I love this site already!
NO, someone already put the manual lock hub nuts in there, OR your truck had manual hubs at one point and an unknowing individual put the autos in with out putting the correct wheel bearing nuts on

But the nuts DO have something to do with the hubs
alright guys, thanks for the info. I was thinking that I wasn't going to need that conversion set. I just bought some Warn hubs this afternoon and going to put them on this weekend. Then hopefully my 4 wheel pull will work!!
Ok, this may be stupid, but still want to ask. I started to install the manual hubs last night and noticed that there is a splined spacer and snap ring on the axle, right up against the spindle. I tried to install the hub body with these still on the axle and it wouldn't insert all the way in, so I had to take that spacer and snap ring out (and not reuse). After that, the hub body slid in just fine. I installed the new snap ring on the outer groove of the axle, outside of the hub body, then installed the hub cap. Is this standard, only having one snap ring? I thought the diagram on the hub directions said there was a snap ring on either side of the hub body? I'm not too worried, as it obviously has been ok with only one snap ring for a while now, but just want it right.
