Sending unit pickup screen

I took the sending unit out of the old front tank and the little black piece with the screen was broken into a few pieces and rolling around the old tank I looked online and they are around $30 is there a cheaper mod or pickup that I can use?

The cheapest way is to use a length of fuel rated hose clamped onto the picup tube where the "shower head" strainer was. Be sure to cut a V in the loose end so it won't suck to the tank bottom or side. The mod I liked better was to use a tube compression union and a length of copper tubing on the pickup tube. If I remember right you need a 3/8 union and tube.
