I have a 93 f250 with a 7.3 w/ banks turbo. Im putting a new ip and injectors on it and was wondering if I should turn up the fuel before I put it on? Injectors are bb code also dose the tq screw realy do anything?
it's safer to turn the fuel up latter if required.there's no such thing as hurting a diesel lean.she'll just be down on power, which is easily adjusted.run her too rich out of the gate, and you "could" harm the engine permanently.unlikely with a pyro, but still why risk it? it's not like the fuel screw is "that" hard to adjust, where it's worth risking an engine imho.plus you'll have a better idea of where it needs to be.odds are if you only adjust it once, then your not fine tuning for perfection anyway.close may be good enough for some, but when fine tuning is free, why not? you'll likely need to adjust it at least twice if you want to nail close to perfect flow rate.
don't shortcut it.dial her right in.it costs you nothing but a little time.
best to leave the torque screw alone.
If your replacement pump is calibrated for a NA engine application then I would follow the instructions for fuel adjustments from Banks... 2nd gen WG installation manual says 1/4 turn iirc. Start there and tune as needed.
Got my pump and injectors in now and my truck runs great lots of power and just a puff of smoke when I floor it egts are good 300 to 350 cruising and cant get over 500 empty hard on a good hill but the turbo dose not spool as fast as before is that because the torque screw its set flush with the jam nut but on my old ip it stuck out 1/4"
Depends how well you like buying fuel. If it does all you need it to do, why "tune" it, if these engines aren't mistreated, they will last forever. Like any other hotrod, the higher the compression ratio to start, the more you'll need to adjust the timing as you increase the boost and fuel. Black smoke may not mean it's broke, but may cause it to be. Pyros are excellent ideas if doing anything but stock tune.
Idk if its a good idea to go any higher yet my horse trailer is around 13 or 14k loaded would turning it up more make it run to hot?
where's the probe?
personally,id use your largest normal load to help set fuel settings.hook up the trailer just empty and go for a drive on a hill.you'll know how things look real quick.
boost gauge yet too or?
The probe is in the up pipe its not far from the manifold and im running at 9 psi I think I will try pulling the trailer tomorrow and see how it goes I realy just want this truck running as good as I can get it
