I have a 1990 f-350 crew-cab 4x4 with 460efi I had the motor completely gone through. I chose comp cams extreme 4x4 speed density cam and forged speed-pro pistons. The CR is 9:5:1 and the stock heads were lightly ported and polished. My problem so far has been the lack of power and pinging. The timing is at about 8deg btc with spout removed. My fuel pressure about 42lbs. I had a superchip in the truck before the rebuild but it is not the right setup for the new motor the timing advance and fuel curve are way off. My ecm code is P2YO. This truck is my daily driver so any help would be appreciated.Justin
You're not going to like hearing this but unfortunately Superchips doubled the price of custom coding 16 months ago. We can supply a custom program for the chip but its going to cost almost as much as a stock chip. Superchips charges every single time you get a new custom program, Diablo doesn't.
So the blue superchip I have is not going to work? Would you be able to make a custom chip? I am just worried that there is nothing available and I just have to deal with paying for premium and not getting premium power. I truck feels like it is just waiting to unleash its power. I paid about 300 for my chip from the Dyno Shop in Santee, CA. This shop sais that the only way to get power out of my motor would be to run an EPEC setup or something similar. Thanx for helping,Justin
The blue chip will work but you're looking at a couple hundred. If you need to update it again in the future, another couple hundred. With a Diablo you're looking at a little over $300 now and about $25 in the future for updates. So it basically boils down to a decision on your part as to whether you may need reprogramming again in the future. You'll get the power you need with the proper programming, especially if you can provide a dyno chart that includes air/fuel ratios.
Just4Ford, I was considering doing the same thing on my '95. I called a local shop and they said that they could get up to 500ft/lbs of torque out of the 460. Do you know if you have to chip it. I have a Hyperchip now and I did not feel anything. Did you have yours dyno'd. Thanks for the info.
