I am getting these two codes from my torque app P0266,P0278. I believe these are fuel injection problem codes. So my question is changing these or cleaning them a do it yourself project. I am pretty handy around an engine but never worked on a diesel. Thanks for your thoughts.
I took it to a local shop and they said it the fuel pump under the driver door (on my 05 Ex) and the number 6 injector. So my thought was to change the fuel pump myself, should be an easy job. I found on youtube a set of videos on how to change the injectors i hope it's as easy as it looks. I also want something to monitor all the inportant stuff so i bought the torque app, does anyone else use this to monitor gagues?
I haven't done injectors but it is critical you replace all o-rings and torque it to proper spec, utilize only ford remans as they all come with new spool valves, plungers, Coil assemblies .they are even flow tested .Ford part number 3c3z-9229-AA contains every o-ring needed for replacement.
Yes those are the video's I found also. Thanks for the o-ring part numbers, i have been asking the video guy (Senior Master Tech) for the part numbers i will need but he hasn't gotten back to me yet. I will use all motorcraft parts.

Cylinder's #2 and #6 contribution balance codes.
Nothing to indicate a fuel pump, although you might want to check your fuel pressure to see if you need to do the blue spring upgrade.

I was going to suggest the same, thanks for bringing that up. I was thinking they suspected fuel pump of not supplying enough pressure. But the weak spring will cause even a perfect fuel pump to not give injectors enough pressure leading to damaged injectors.
Thanks Raptor for your help reps sent your way, i will send reps rusty's way as soon as i change it. My Ex has been down for 2 months now can't wait to get it running again.
For what its worth my truck just had the P0266 and it was the #2 injector. Changing the injector was easy enough. Just make sure that when you remove the old injector that the copper washer isn't left behind in the injector cup, also make sure the injector hold down bolt hole does not have any liquid in it before you put the new injector in as it will prevent proper seat load on the new copper washer. What year is your truck?
i have an 2005 Excursion. Question i have seen the injectors on fordparts.com for $266.67 and the diagram showed other things i might need seperate. So do i need to buy more then just the injector nozzles?
NM I see its an 05 I would at least do the stand pipe and dummy plug on that side while you are in there. here is the link to the stand pipe kit Tousley Ford Parts Depot you can also get your injector and blue spring kit there as well. From their home page they have a link to commonly used powerstoke parts where you can find most if not all that you will need for your truck.
I have a local guy that has a repair shop that can get me the parts at his wholesale price. All i need is to get the part numbers. Do you know of a list out there I might be able to get my hands on. I think i am only going to change one side, 2 & 6 should be on the same side?
You will need some different tools, here is a link to a srmastertech video that shows the tools you will need https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYT7...feature=g-hist as far as parts you will only need the new injector and the standpipe and dummy plug kit. To do the stand pipes and dummy plugs you will need a 10mm hex bit for the old ones and a 12mm for the new ones. The torque values are 10ft/lb for the oil rail bolts, 24 ft/lb for the injector hold down and 60 ft/lb for the stand pipes and dummy plugs.
