After removing the parking drum brake and cleaning the transmission/ gear box in preparation for a paint job, I noticed a crack on the RETAINER ASSEMBLY (TRANSMISSION OUTPUT SHAFT BEARING). The crack is on one side of t he rear mounting bracket. Does anyone know how I can get hold of this part? I have already contacted the guys at Joblot automotive and they are searching, but want to have a plan B just in case they can’t find one.
Yes, it's possible to weld cast iron, but many welders don't know how. You'll need to find an "old school" welder. I had a cast iron manifold welded for my 52 at one shop that said they could do it, but they ended up ruining it. The second shop, and another exhaust manifold, was able to weld it and so far it's holding up. The welds won't be pretty, but as long as it still functions, right?

I had one of these for a T-98 welded by a pro once, and it soon broke again. There is a ton of stress on it. That's why it broke in the first place. Actually, it's common to find them broken on T-98's, but I don't think I've ever seen one break on a crash box.
I should have one of these around. If I don't, I'll find one, so don't worry about welding it. Email or call me.

I believe it broke because the support had worn-out to the point in which it did not have enough cushioning; or maybe at some point it was dropped. What is the significance of those numbers on the side of the box? Thank you for your offer in helping me out, I will email you.
There are two different parts like this according to the parts catalog. I have the other part like this. I know it's out of F-5 or F-6, does anyone know if they're interchangable? Just by looking at the catalog page it looks like the one I have is slightly taller.

The tall one is F-4/6, and the short one is F-2/3.
