Well over the past few weeks, the ABS light has come on but went off after I restarted the truck. Well now it is on full time. Dealer wants $85 just to read it. Does anyone else know of a place to read ABS codes? If it doesn't show in my sig, it's a 2000 V10 4x4. Tks!!!
Autozone or any similar store will usually read codes for free
for about the same price you can get a OBDII to USB cord and use your computer
I have http://www.obdcom.com/
It is awesome, I can read and clear codes and monitor stuff.
There are also similar Bluetooth OBDII adapters that work with computers or smart phones, but the reviews are mixed, some people get sketchy connections with them.
Well today the light was off. I was pulling out of a parking lot and slightly hit the brakes to make a turn and the steering wheel almost turned out of my hand. It made a sharp left turn and ABS light came back on. No auto parts store can read ABS here. Dealer wants $85 to read code. If I remember right, sensors r about $15 a piece. Would u just change the front 2 and rear pumpkin sensor or bite the bullet and take to dealer?

I would just change it out for $15 a piece. Not a whole lot of money if it fixes the issue.
$85 just to read the code should be a crime IMHO. They should do what the auto parts store does and read it for free in hopes that you would just buy the OEM sensors at their parts dept. Even if they charge a small fee (say $20) to read, at least apply that as a credit to the part you buy from them.
well im still working on this darn ABS light. i was wrong on the price of the senors. the one in the pumpkin is $16, the front 2 r $158 each. i can get a whole new hub assembly for $190 with the sensor. i have recently, in the last 2 months, add Freds wheel spacers. i will have to remove the wheel, spacer, and rotor just to get to the ABS sensor. my thinking is with 13 yrs and 158k miles, the hubs might getting ready to be replaced anyway, but i hate to just throw parts at it. would really suck to throw $400 on 2 hubs and the light still be on. guess i might have to bite the bullet and let the dealer read the code....
Well went to the dealer. Friend helped me out and cut $15 off the charge. Found the right front sensor bad. Their estimate was $370. I ordered the part from amazon for $46. Should be here by the end of next week.

No need to go to the dealer. I gave my hubs the grease through the abs hole treatment 3 years ago and they have 162k miles on them with zero play. Try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes when you have light problems. Don't just throw money at it, shop around.
I tried the battery, unpluging and repluging the sensors and still no change. Hub r tight by the dealer so I'm just gonna replace the bad sensor they said was bad.
So, I know this thread is a year old, but I this is about the 10th thread I've read, trying to find out why my ABS light came on last night and what to do about it. Sounds like it's pretty time consuming to replace them. Maybe my X is due though, it's a 02 with 138,000 miles on it. My biggest question is, do you think that the ABS light coming on last night had anything to do with my batteries running down to the point I couldn't start the truck this morning? I charged them up today and it started again, so I'm hoping that I don't wake up tomorrow with a dead truck, because the light is still on. Mine is a 7.3 with 4wd. Thanks for any feedback.
Typically it's the rear axle sensor - the $15 one. Always worth swapping it takes about 5 minutes. If it goes away after you reach 15mph you're done. Otherwise it's front right or left sensor. You can probably swap both for less than what the Stealership wants for one...
