Hose on Front Diff

Noticed last night when I was working under my truck, on the front diff is a rubber hose at the top. Mine goes up into the frame where its not connected to anything.

What is this hose, and is it supposed to be connected to anything?

If I am not mistaken its a vent hose

Positioned high like that for water fording.

(up to axle hub level of coarse)

I should be fine as is.
