receiver hitch

I've searced the net and cannot find a Class IV receiver hitch for my 2WD 70 F250. Has anyone installed one? Will a dentside hitch fit?

You can use up to 72 for fit. 73 and up chassis is about 4 in wider and wont work.

Thanks. All I can find for '72 and older is Class III. I wanted a Class IV so when I upgrade campers I can buy something in the 6000lb to 7000lb range.

Doubt you'll find a Class VI for these trucks. Doubt anything else will retrofit to these frame rails. Have any local fab shops? Might be able to get something made?

I'd put a class 3 on it and not worry about it. I have come to think there is an amount of BS tied to the classes anyways.

Just look for one for a 73-76 F-250 4wd as they have the same frame width as your 2wd. Use 76 as the search point as 77.5 was the changeover point at #Y20,001 as per ND. Reese makes one, but there are probably others.

Most all the early bumpers i've seen were universal fit that would mount onto many different vehicles. The mounting brackets could be flipped for the frame wide of your vehicle since they were offset about 2" or so. Unless like the one's on the early dodge that were welded onto bumper. I cut them off and use the ford brackets and drill new mounting bolt holes in the back side of the bumper is what I did cause the bumper was beefier receiver plus was a nice chrome bumper. orich

Just get a later model and make it fit. If you can't weld, a good welding shop shouldn't charge too much if you give them a good drawing of how you need it narrowed up. I find used hitches all the time for little or nothing and make them fit. Or you can buy just the tube and build one. Get the regular receiver hitch tube, not the regular tubing that some people say works, it has a seam inside and the hitches slide in hard.
