overload help*sagging rear-end
I am interested in hearing from anyone who has any great ideas on how to keep the back end of my truck from sagging under towed weight. The truck is an F100 short bed with a new 390 C6. We just bought a new horse trailer and the tongue weight is almost 500 lbs. The truck tows it just fine weight-wise but it sags several inches-not good in the front end for handling and braking. We bought 2000 lb overload springs from the local NAPA store but it only helped about 1". Then we tried 3/4 ton springs but it turns out they were from a 4x4 so the truck looks like a stink bug about to spray and the shocks won't reach. Would 3/4 ton springs work if they were off of a 2 wheel drive? Or are we going to have to spend the $250 on a set of air springs (PITA from what I hear). If so, what brand is best? Thanks!

Check these out. They really work. You can use them with your origonal springs. There are several makers out there so do some price checking.

Just an update: We tried a set of heavy 1/2 springs with the overloads and it seems to have worked great. It raised the truck about 1 1/2" in the back end, which was OK since it sat pretty much level beforehand. Then we added the trailer, it leveled it back out and tows fine. It also seems to ride decent enough empty too. Whew! Never had the rear end off a truck so many times in 3 days!
