I'm trying not to think of worst case scenarios, but that never seemed to help in the past.
The 2002 escape in the sig (v6 xlt) was only driven about 3 days out of the week until last week, when it was driven every day. The coolant warning light is sometimes on and sure enough the coolant level is always low. Sometimes there is just a tiny amount at the bottom of the degas bottle, and sometimes it is only down just past the cold level marker.
There are no drips or seeps or puddles or any indication it is an external cooling leak. Especially for the amounts that are missing. I keep topping it off and it keeps vanishing.
No billowing while clouds out the tailpipe.
Any suggestions where to start would be greatly appreciated.
I left the engine idling while writing the above, and I caught a nasty leak in the degas bottle. I think every time I've looked at it when it was already hot, it was already leaking vaporized water. Having caught it just at the warm up temp, it was sputtering still.
From what I have read, they are NOT cheap. I'd be off the the 'pull-your-part' for a replacement, or at least check their availability and price before checking at the dealer.
They are not difficult to change, but the hoses like to stay where they are.
