2 part or not 2 part

I have a 1973 F250 highboy that has been sitting in a garage for the past nine years. I've tried to sell it for around $3000, got lots of calls but no one willing to lay down the money. I'm considering parting it out because according to my calculations, there is a potential for over $4700 in parts. The only question is how hard is it to sell parts for an early 70' F250. Things like trim, interior pieces, fender wells, and so on. Has anyone grappled with this question? Does anyone have an idea of the ease or difficulty of selling used parts for this kind of truck? Any help is appreciated.

Is it running, and mostly complete? If so, I think you're better off trying to sell it whole. You'll sell parts off piece by piece only to eventually end up with a shell that you have to deal with, and then you've got the same problem you have now. Also, it's unlikely that you'll be able to sell every major piece on it and come out with the price you think you will. There is value added in the fact that a vehicle is complete.

Welcome to FTE by the way.

Assuming it's not a rust bucket you shouldn't have any trouble getting at least $1,500 minimum for 3/4 ton 4x4 (highboy) in Colorado.

Without more information and pics it's difficult to say why you haven't reached your 3K asking price.

Since the economy sux as it has and will, seems to me you'll need to drop your price a bit to "get rid of it". Parting it out could take years and as others have said, you'll still be left with parts and a shell....maybe even no way to move it if you sell axles/suspension etc. On top of that, removing things and hitting the Post Office or the local FedEx/UPS after boxing things up can become a tedious hassle, especially twards the end when most of the decent craps been sold. Seriously, people will hound you for screws, clips, brackets etc, that will end up driving you nuts and wasting your time to get and ship.

MHO.....sell it as a whole and save yourself a crap load of trouble.
