what im wondering is does a 4.10 gear work with any other gear

Are you asking what happens if you have 4:10 in on axle and 3:55 in the other? or so? If so it doesnt work, they have to have the same axle relation.

Yeah, you have to have the same axle ratios front and back. If you can get the rear axle too, just change them both!

It would work but you would not be able to use 4WD... making it useless...

So as the others indicated... No with an asterisk...

Just think it through -- what would happen if you drove the front and rear axles at different rates?

I have seen guys do it but the tire heights were drastically different and between ratio and tire height they were matched...but we aint sand draggin here.

You can do it. But it's a horrible idea and will not function very well, if at all.
