Yes it can.. You can buy a new distributor on ebay.. They were pretty cheap too, probably still are.

Same as a 360 or 390

Isn't the hole for the distributor larger on the FT? I know there was/is a bushing to allow an FE distributor in an FT.

Talking Distributors

FT 361 should have the big oil pump drive shaft , this means a FE distributor will not work. If you want electronic ign the easy way is to install a Pertronics unit, easy and simple to install. Rule of FT's if it has the big diameter crank snout it has the big diameter oil pump drive. As far as the diameter of the distributor base goes FT and FE are the same where they fit in the intake, the difference is the oil pump drive diameter FT's are larger.

Interesting. I put an electronic distributor in a 361 a few years ago. I still had great oil pressure after the swap..

Maybe It was a 361 specific distributor?? I cant remember..

Hate to give bad information! Good thing these guys were here to clear that up..

B8AZ-6A618-A .. Distributor Drive Shaft = 1958/76 all FE & 1964/78 330 2V Medium Duty FT engines.

C4TZ-6A618-A .. Distributor Drive Shaft = 1964/78 330 2V Heavy Duty, 361 2V & 4V, 391 4V FT engines.

1964/67 330 2V M/D uses the same crank as a 1964/67 FE 352 2V / 1968/78 330 2V M/D uses the same crank as a 1968/76 FE 360 2V

replace oil filter, old one had a dry/cracked gasket, and would gush oil at start up.
i swapped throttle and choke cables, no PTO don't need a throttle cable; but achoke cable will sure come in handy..........

next time you go to start it cold have someone else do it and see where it leaks from i had a problem like that and it was where it bolts to the block....if that is all it is we won't know till you look .... if you weren't so far away i would just about give you my FT oil filter holder (don't know technical name for it) since i used one off of a 352 because i had some clearance issues also IMHO get an oil filter relocation kit they are only about $40 if it is indeed leaking from where it bolts to the block let us know when you can madrid

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...ghtsafter1.jpg

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

Talking OIL LEAK

I had a similer problem on a FT391 . What is your oil presure at cold start? What is it warmed up? The truck I was working on the pressure relief valve would stick when cold and then would release after a few minutes, it would blow out the filter seal , or leak out of the sending unit until the pressure dropped. This engine would have over 100 PSI. for a few minutes then would drop back to 60PSI cold . Hot ideling 35 PSI at 2000 RPM it had 55PSI. Cleaned the relief valve and no more problems.

Just Some Thoughts ------- Hotwrench
