sometimes the old filter gasket gets stuck in the housing and has to be pried out with a screwdriver. Or there is dirt in there. I am not sure if you have a spin on filter like a Napa 1515 or if it is a canister type. I am assuming it is a spin on type. So please tell me what you have for sure. I don't recognize the numbers you are using so I am prolly wrong and it is a canister type. If so than again the old gasket may still be stuck in there and it won't seal properly.

Also my 2 cents on the Fram filter is that they are not a very good one.

spin on oil cartridge

truck had a napa 1773 spin on, but it is too small, just don't look right. so i scoured my parts catalog and i believe i need a d9az 6731[ford p/n].
thanks for the feed back. Bill "numbers dummy" told me 1958 Edsil had same parts on the 361 engine

330 M/D uses a "Spin-On" Oil Filter: D9AZ-6731-A (replaced B7A-6731-A & C1AZ-6731-A) ~ Motorcraft FL-1A (replaced FL-1) with the FE "Passenger Car" vertical oil filter adapter (COAZ-6881-A).

330 H/D, 361 & 391 use a cartridge oil filter.

C4TZ-6881-A .. Oil Filter Adapter-Use with cartridge oil filter-330 H/D, 361 & 391 FT engines.

C1TZ-6731-A .. Cartridge Oil Filter Kit, includes 4 gaskets (Motorcraft FL-20).

2) EAA-6746-A .. Cartridge Oil Filter Gasket ~ 1.24" O.D. x .72" I.D. x .12" thick.

1) EAA-6749-A .. Cartridge Oil Filter Center Bolt to Cover Gasket ~ 1.18" O.D. x .77" I.D. x .06" thick.

1) EAA-6838-A .. Cartridge Oil Filter Mounting Gasket.

1975/78 Mustang II: Ford had to "shoehorn" the 302 into the engine compartment, uses a different oil filter: Motorcraft FL-300. Same as FL-1A except shorter.

Talking Oil Pressure

Tom the pressure relief valve is located in the body of the oil pump, you will need to pull the oil pan and remove the pump. If the pressure relief valve is scored or the bore is damaged your best bet is just to replace the pump. Many time bits of hard valve seal material will get into the pump and cause this problem. Sometimes there is coked oil on the exh crossover and this material will break off and find its way into the oil system. Or it could be a chunk of silicone gasket sealer AKA ( the blue death ), it may be just a good idea just to pull the pan and give it a proper cleaning.

Edsel 361 not the same as a 361 FT engine, only used in 1958 and was a slight overbore of the 352.

If you had asked for a Spin-On filter for a 1958/60 Edsel 223/292/332/352 you still woulda got FL-1A. Or a 1960 Thunderbird 430, 1965 Mustang 289, or any other I-6 or V8 engine from 1957 thru the 1990's.

Excepting 1975/78 Mustang II 302 that uses FL-300.

Bill Isn't the FL-1A the Ford part for the Napa 1515? Or Fram PH8A?

IMO, it would be t'other way around since FL-1A is OEM.

But, I haven't a single clue what Fram or NAPA (whatever) part numbers are the same as FL-1A as I've never bought an aftermarket filter. Why would I need to since Ford dealers stocked 100's of genuine Ford filters?

Original 1957/60 Spin-On filter only had a Ford part number: B7A-6731-A / B7A-6731-A replaced in 1961 by C1AZ-6731-A (1962/72 Auto-Lite/1973/78 Motorcraft part number FL-1).

C1AZ-6731-A replaced in 1979 by D9AZ-6731-A (Motorcraft FL-1A).
