I have a 1983 F100 with a 302. I bought a M5R2 out of a 1988 F150, 302 to put in. Problem is the shifter is about 7" to far forward. I have searched the web and seen pictures of the tranny with the shifter in the position I need but haven't found a web site that sells the parts to move it. Haven't found any threads on here either. Other than salvage yards (none around here) or ebay (none on there) any ideas on where I can get the parts to relocate the shifter?
Never mind. Talked to a man who rebuilds these transmissions. The shifter lacation I need is only on the M5R2 for the Rangers. Guess I will be cutting a hole. Not really what I wanted to do but can be done.
What transmission did you used to have? It sounds like you used to have the SROD, which had the shifter way down by seat. If that is the case, all you need to do is get the transmission inspection cover from a 1980-1996 truck that didn't have an SROD.
Called the few local salvage yards in the area. Most don't keep older trucks and the one that did only had trucks with automatic transmissions. ctubutis if you find one let me know how I can pay for it and get it shipped.
I quite honestly forget the NP numbers - which are the transmission, and which are the transfer case.
Even with my own BW stuff, I forget the xfer-case numbers... I think it's a 1356 but wouldn't bet on it....
The T-18 I can remember, though.
Just winding you up. But, the NP435 is the HD 4-speed that was in Rusty when you drove him, and the NP208 (ok, Shaun, 208F) is that t-case that's in Dad's truck and was in Rusty when you drove him.
As for BW's, Ford used the 1345 and the 1356, like the one that was on the ZF5 when I bought it. But, I can see how it would be easy to forget them.
Chris, that one may or may not work. Problem is, O.P's truck isn't a 4x4, so he would have a random hole where the transfer case shifter was. I'm also not sure how tall the M5R2 is, and if he would have issues like Gary did with his ZF5. O.P's current inspection cover is exactly like the one I have, since the SROD shifter handle and the 80-87 4x4 shifter handles are in the same location.
That's why I suggested the 1987-1996 cover. That way, he won't have the extra transfer case shifter hole, and he won't have any clearance issues.
Any manual transmission cover yes. There are some automatic 87-96 trucks out there that have inspection covers, but the covers aren't cut for anything, they just happen to have them. Those would work too, but O.P. would have to cut the hole out for the manual transmission shifter.
