Ignition coil failure. Common problem with Fords in general.
I would suggest that a TFI or PIP failure is more likely than a coil failure.
That said, I recently experienced a coil failure on 4.9 - first one I ever had fail on any Ford I've owned. Is there any reason why a 4.9 is more prone to kill a coil than other engine? Can't think of anything, but thought I'd throw it out there.

Doh! TFI is what I meant - thanks for the correction... As to the coil, I'd read a bad or mis-gap in the sparkplugs was thought to be problem.

I would guess it is because it is more exposed to the elements. When mine failed it was because it rusted out.<O</O
