Spare Key

So what is the deal with the keys, is it possibly to have a key made that just opens the door and starts the truck? My current key has all bells and whistles. I'm hoping I can just take the key I have to the dealer and have another made. I am looking for a key that I can hide on the truck somewhere in case I loose the one in my pocket.

I see something in the manual about having a little bar code tag in case you have lost your keys, either I never got that tag or I have already misplaced it not knowing I needed it later.

I have a hide a key that will open door put will not start truck because it is not code.

Have another key that is coded but does not have the lock unlock doors on it.
If you have two keys now you can by another key from dealership and have that key learned. It is real easy and is in the owner’s manual on how to do it

OK Thanks, I was concerned about the fact I do not have the bar code label that was suppose to come with the keys. Maybe it is just for all of the programmed stuff that the key can do, such as lock, unlock and remote start.

When I got my truck the dealer gave me a spare key.I just assumed it would start the truck. I guess I should try it. Maybe he did, IDK. I have the keypad on the door so it should start it.

looks like you have the king ranch model, that one should have the combo lock on the doors. I use mine quite often. its nice when my hands are full but a finger can be used to open the truck and I don't have to dig out my keys and set down whats in my hands.

I had a spare non coded key made to keep in the center console.
I keep my tailgate locked and haven't converted it to work with the power door locks yet.
I found myself with the truck running and needing into the bed of the truck, so the key saved me from having to shut the truck off just to open the tailgate.
The non-coded key will also turn on the radio. So if the wife wants to go wait in the truck, she can use the keypad on the driver's door to get in and the key in the center console will turn on the radio but it will not start the truck.

When I got my truck I was presented with two sets of keys.

The second set had a small bar code label on the key ring

Maybe follow up with your dealer if you didn't get your bar code info

You can get a key made at a locksmith with out the lock/unlock buttons on it, when you start the truck you will get a start system fault on message screen, they were suppose to fix that from happening I was told, hit ok and off you go, about $40 up here, It will set off the horn honking if you use it to unlock door but just start it up and it will stop the horn.

key

I had a henweigh made and it does everything but start the truck so it is perfect to get in and out and unlock the tailgate, etc.

I ordered a key through the dealer parts department without the remote lock/start functions and programmed it to start the truck myself. As long as you have two existing keys, the programming is a simple procedure and is outlined in the owners manual. The key blank from the dealer was cheaper than the local locksmith.

I just checked with the dealer, $150 for the key with all of the buttons for the remote start, plus $40 for them to program it. A chipped key just to start the truck I think he said $50 and I can program.

I was mainly thinking that if lost my keys while out exploring or whatever I would have a key hidden to be able to drive home. I will probably go with just a coded key without all of the bells and whistles.

As far as the Bar Code thing that I don't have, it had the key code on it that would help in making a new but the dealer can make a new one without the code, so not a real big deal. They are working on getting me the key code so I will have it in case I need it in the future.

Passive Anti Theft System I think. Its just what Ford calls there anti theft (chipped) keys. Been using them for some time now. Just the last few years they started combining the remote fob into it but the transponder functions the same.
