I'm not really seeing the problem. Yes the F-150 can be a better tow vehicle is some of the available configurations such as 5th wheel towing, but in most of the other configurations it is not when compared to an Expedition equipped with a heavy-duty tow package.
It seems pretty obvious that the Expy is a dog with the old 5.4.
Empty it might do fine but with any kind of trailer or loaded down with several people it will feel underpowered.
I drive my wife's Mountaineer quite a bit. It actually feels sporty, even full of people or towing up to 3000 lbs. The 5.4 is not going to cut it when they could've easily put the 3.5 ecoboost or the 5.0.
