OT - Wheel stud issues, non-Ford
I have a mystery you might be able to help me out with.
I spent a part of the day trying to do a brake job on a family members 2001 Toyota Sienna. She just had new tires put on at a tire shop in her hometown about 4 weeks ago.
When loosening the lug nuts on the first front wheel, it looked almost like metal shavings were coming off the stud with the lug nuts. One of the wheel studs ended up snapping in half with the lug nut still attached.
Brake pads changed, then the same thing with front wheel number two.
I can't think of any other reason that would happen other than the lugs/studs somehow were cross threaded.
I called the tire shop, and they've offered to fix it all at no charge- which is good, but...
I thought I'd check out the rear lugs/studs to see if I could get to the rear brakes, and the exact same thing happened with one of the rears.
I quit after that-
can you guys think of any reason why this would be happening?
Cross threading is the only thing I can think of, since the lugs are 'sticking' and I could see metal shavings when I loosened the lugs.. (Edit- I was using a standard X- shaped lug nut wrench)
Thanks-
