Tire Wear

This is to anyone that runs really knobby tires. I have 35x12.5x16 dick cepek tires on my truck, dont know which ones but there very knobby. Ive had it all checked, alignment, balancing but the front tires seem to wear uneven. Im not talking uneven as if the toe or camber is out, just each **** is different and feels rough if you run you hand over it. The rear is just fine. This is the first time I have had this knobby of a tire, so im thinking its due to being on the front of the truck. The rear stays straight the entire time, as the front steers the vehicle.

Am I right on my assumption, or is there something else going on im not finding?

There's something else you're not finding. Knobby tires won't wear funny just because they're on the front. Knobby tires are harder to keep balanced though.

What would you think then. Dont want to rotate them and wear the rear (that are fine) the same way.

Knobby tires are for off road, I've really never seen a set that was used on-road that wore smoothly-sorry.

It could be worn shocks, worn tie rod ends, or something like that. When you had the balancing done, did you have them check it first to see how close to within spec it was, or did you let them just rip the weights off and stick it on the machine?

my rears are pretty smooth, just the fronts not. Thats why my initial thought was due to the front wheels turning to steer the truck, most of the braking power, ect. The previous owner put these on new right when I bought the truck, so wasnt going to take off until I wear them out.

Tie rod ends are new, did those when I did the leveling kit, and blocks. Theres also a adjustable trac bar on it. If it was the shocks, I should be able to feel the truck driving different. And the tires were done right before I bought it, brand new tires, new weights, ect. So im guessing the previous watched what they did, I didnt.

I had a brand new shock go bad and scallop a tire on my truck. 3,000 miles and the tire was howling something fierce from the wear pattern. I got a new shock for free , but had to pay for the tire. I never noticed any different feel from the bad shock.

Also, as mentioned, the knobby tires don't wear that great to begin with. I'd get the balance checked again just to be safe. Then maybe look into some Centramatic wheel balancers to help keep things in line for longer tire life and more even wear.

The only thing I could say about the shocks is there black. I dont know the brand, when they were put on or anything. The rear has some bounce (not bad) like it should. Bounce and stop. The front seems stiff but theres some play, doesnt move to much but thats a lot of weight for me to move.

If the problem is balance the recommendation on 4x4 forums is often airsoft bb balancing (google it) or something like Dynabeads. I'd expect that you'd feel significant vibration if that was the problem. Maybe turning the front wheels while completely stopped?

Isnt there a way to see if there good? Lift up the truck and see if the wheel moves up and down, ect?

And talking about ball joints, your talking about these right?

Yea I have no vibration or anything. After replaceing the tie rod ends, I have no play left in my steering wheel or anything. I mean it rides like a truck like this should.
