just wondering if anyone has ever had this problem. the whole center broke out of the flywheel on a 2006 f 550 6.0. first time ive seen this, and we have a fleet of these tow trucks and flatbeds with the 6.0s and a few 7.3s. anyone give me an idea what could cause this?
as far as i can tell nothing happened to the converter. i installed a new flywheel and is running fine again. i know the driver only knows one throttle position, and thats wide open. so not sure. i know they overload this truck too.

Maybe ol' Leadfoot should be in the shop with you fixing what he destroyed...then maybe he'll have a little more respect for the equipment. I always hated that when I had employees that trashed our equipment...had the mentality that "It's not mine, the company will fix it"...the come to Jesus meetings were never ending!
With the torque a diesel has I would guess one too many power shifts with a load. If the tires don't give and the engine doesn't quit then something in the middle has to give. Usually it's a drive shaft or rear end but in this case the flex plate lost.
I have been looking for the cause of something exactly like this, my mechanics at my shop just brought me a flywheel out of one of our customer's trucks that looks just like this. I was trying to find a cause to give to my customer, I guess his drivers need to stay off of the throttle
Tell you truck owner to put in the GPS and accelerometer unit
in the trucks and to let the drives know that it's there and
if they break it they pay for it.
I worked with a jack *** that thought it was funny to make the
work van backfire. He never did it when I was around it was told
to me by one of the other guys that wanted to know if it was hurting
the engine. Well about the time that he told me the van started to run
funny. Went to the shop. Bent valves. If the dude driving it had not given
his 2 week notice he would of been gone. The interesting thing once we got
rid of the guy some odd things quit happing. Funny how that goes.
Worked an other job where we did have GPS on the trucks and the
guys bitched all the time. But when you see a fuel charge 100 miles
from where the truck is at the time and the guy still has the card in
his pocket the next day. Sort of hard to say it was stolen.
