I live in Florida and truck is 4x2 so worst case I'm getting into is wet roads or gravel roads. Mostly highway driving. The good year silent armory on the truck are about dead and I need some new tires. Any suggestions?
I have Firestone destination a/ts on my trailblazer, great tire, but no idea how they'd be on the Excursion.
Check out Tirerack and take a look at the many 265/75 16 options. See what works for your budget and needs. You could move up to a 285 with no issues (other than the speedo and Odo will be a little off, but fixable)

Currently running the Michelin LTX and I like them alot. They were already on it when I bought it. Will buy them again if I can afford it. I am like you...just a pavement pounder and family hauler. No off road and no towing.
Michelins $1,050
Pirelli scorpion $850
Firestone destination A/T $790
Firestone transforce HT $760
Goodyear silent armor $850
Cooper ATP $623
Falken rocky AT $620

I'm on my 2nd set of falkens rocky mountains ...first set i paid just under 600 i put over 30000 miles on them and sold them 2 years later for 500 ...i never had any problems with them i even pull a heavy trailer about 3 times a month but they do drive better when i have them at 70 psi ...
i have the 285s on my 2wd beast here is what they look like on there ... they are nitto tera graplers had them 3 years i got 2 years left in them .. there great ..

I'd avoid the Firestones - the Transforce just isn't that great of a tire when you have other choices. They wear well and are fairly quiet but the traction is just not there. I'd also look at the BFG Long Trail T/A and their new Rugged Terrain. Both are fantastic tires on road - wet performance is outstanding and they will give you good traction. I just put the Rugged Terrains on mine and can't say enough good about them. We've had heavy rain here this past week and they did fantastic.
The Cooper is a good tire and is made in the US if that sways your decision any. The Falkens are good - their Wildpeak tires are available in both AT and Highway and are currently being offered with a $100 rebate and have a 60k mileage warranty.
I was leaning towards destination a/t based on my experience with them on my trailblazer. 36k and still have 9/32 tread. But im open to anything. Cost is an issue as we have baby due 12/12/12.
