Mirror changes and questions
My truck has the mirror style on the left and I would like to use the style on the right. Do both styles have the same mounting pattern?
Are there names for these styles?
Does the style on the right have a detent or stop on the mounting bar that would keep it perpendicular to the door - like when folding out?

The mirror on the left and right are referred to as Type 7 and Type 9, respectively. The latter is commonly referred to as a "Swing Lock" mirrors.
Dunno if Type 9s have a detente.... I tossed the ones that were on my rig cuz they were bent.. I kept the heads though.

D4TZ-17696-A .. Low Mount Swing-Lok Mirror / Right/Left is the same, has flat upper/lower mounting brackets.
Upper bracket has (2) mounting holes on a 2 3/4" bolt center / Lower bracket has (2) mounting holes on a 2" bolt center / Arm has a 7 19/32" span.

D6TZ-17696-A .. Low Mount Swing-Lok Mirror / Right/Left is the same, has curved upper/lower mounting brackets.
Upper/lower brackets have (2) mounting holes, 2" between centers / Arm has a 6 11/32" span.

Mounting holes will not line up unless replacement mirrors match the originals. Otherwise, the holes in the doors will have to be filled in and the doors spot painted.
This info is from 40 + years of Ford parts experience. How many years of Ford parts experience do you have?

I myself have no experience in the parts business, and just a fraction of the hands-on experience of most on this board. That being said, I appreciate hearing both sides (the book and hands-on), so keep it coming Number Dummy.

Where will y'all find any NOS (New Old Stock) D4TZ-17696-A Low Mount Swing-Lok Mirror Kits?
Obsolete, no Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.
Within the last couple of days, an FTE member (not I) bought all 64 from an ebay seller that was offering them for $30.00 each. A roaring bargain, considering that the last MSRP was $98.00, dealer cost was $65.33.
There are 18 D6TZ-17696-A Low Mount Swing-Lok Mirror Kits available NOS ~ Last MSRP: $58.33, dealer cost: $35.00.
D4TZ-17723-A mirror head (came with the mirror kit or was available by itself ~ last MSRP: $43.80/dealer cost: $26.28) is the same for both the D4TZ & D6TZ mirrors. 4 available NOS

Good to know! I'll measure when I finally get my truck.
I was browsing the LMC catalog and it states the upper bracket has a 2 3/4" bolt center and the bottoms are on 2" spacing.
@lrdvdr41 - Sounds like a plan. What condition are yours in? Maybe you can PM some pictures.
